Deadly edition by Ker Dukey Romance eBooks

In Deadly, the story opens with Cereus and Ryan traveling throughout the world forging their own path together in darkness. Their allegiance to each other is based upon a bond making them soul mates on a deep level. Knowing what dark and impure urges percolate within Cereus, Ryan is dedicated to teaching her how to own her sinister side. Of course, Ryan is the consummate psychopath tutor to Cereus’ sociopathic tendencies.

Living a nomadic lifestyle allows Ryan and Cereus much needed anonymity, but with Cereus acting on her propensities without much premeditation, Ryan assumes the role his brother, Blake, fulfilled for many years. Being a loner, Cereus doesn’t have the skill set to make friends nor does she really have the urge to be accepted, so when someone crosses Cereus, it could lead to a bloody conclusion.

While it is clear that Cereus is cut from the same cloth as Ryan, Cereus doesn’t quite evolve like Ryan and refuses to consciously accept her nightmares as truths. As Cereus struggles to reconcile her emotions, she still has strong feelings for Ryan that extend beyond genial relations between a niece and uncle. For Ryan, societal limitations are for the weak and since he is above such triviality, it’s a non-issue but he does have his reasons for holding back.

Adding to the tension of their situation, Cereus’ motivations are examined and the connection between Ryan and Cereus is underscored, especially when Cereus is tested, but Ryan won’t ever let her stray too far. Ryan will always be the most memorable psychopath and Cereus a perfect counterpart to his malevolent existence. Somehow, it was comforting to know Ryan and Cereus were holding down their own version of fictional justice against hypocrisy and idiocy.

In this final book of the Empathy series, it all comes full circle due to Ker Dukey’s masterful storytelling. The plot in Deadly is tightly constructed and the chapter chronology fuels the mystery of how it is all unfolding. While I selfishly don’t want the journey to end, Ryan’s voice will always remain somewhere in my mind. I highly recommend Deadly and the Empathy series.

Deadly edition by Ker Dukey Romance eBooks Reviews

First off, this series is one of my top favorites. And trust me. I've gone through A LOT

I'm in the middle of the road with this book.

On one side, I wish I wouldn't have read it. It wasn't really needed. The previous book has such a perfect ending and now? I'm feeling cheated.
Was the ending meant for us to draw our own conclusions? They'll be locked together forever? Or perhaps escape? Was this book added to placate readers? Because of course, killers can never go unpunished, right?
I'm feeling slightly frustrated

On The other side, we get another Empathy book.
I LOVE these characters. They're captivating, dangerous, heartbreaking and disturbing. They aren't like anything I've ever read. Ker Dukey is a freaking genius! I was rooting for the "bad guys" and with all the craziness going on, that's an effing miracle. What incredible writing skills!

But.... I'm still going to pretend the series ended with "Vacant" ;)
Deadly is Chilling Evocative and Compelling.
Ever since I started to read the Empathy series I have always found a soft spot for Ryan, sure he’s a psychopath who thinks he’s impassive, except when it comes to Cereus, but he’s intriguing and the main reason I couldn’t wait to read this novella.
Deadly continues the story of how Ryan has taken Cereus under his wing to help teach her how to deal with her darkness, through actions or wise words such as one of my favorite quotes in the novella “There is no room for guilt here Cereus it’s a weakness. You need to own your demon, don’t let it own you”. Love those Ryan-isms!! Deadly also gives us more of our favorite brother Blake and his wife Melody, we also get to learn just how twisted and demented Cereus is.
Deadly is just as phenomenal as all the books in this amazing series. I couldn’t put it down until I was completely done because I had to know what was going to happen in the story, but then I was so upset that it ended and just wanted more. I always want more when it comes to Ker Dukey’s books.
Deadly (an Empathy novella) is a dark read, a psychological thriller with a touch of taboo that you just can’t help but love the story!
I said I didn't think there needed to be another book in this series, but that's how good it is. The author knew we needed closure with Cereus (and Ryan). This is short, even for a novella, and the ending is quite abrupt. But I stand by my original review (below) this series is mesmerizing. Highly recommended. My heart breaks for Mel over and over. Blake is so tortured. Ryan is so twisted, and Cereus is where she needs to be. Read this in one sitting. Amazing.

Empathy, Desolate, Vacant…..this review covers the series and will be the same under each title. I had no idea what I was getting myself into. I like dark, and I like erotic, but this series goes beyond combining those two. This series is something different altogether. These characters get under your skin, in your head and steal your breath. You go the edge and back again in a way that is somewhat mesmerizing. I found myself power reading, only to go back and read again. I can’t even say who I liked most or least. Mel, Ryan, Blake, Cereus…they are nothing without each other. None of these characters could be in any other work. If any of them were to actually die? I don’t think I could keep reading. They need each other for all this to make sense. I went through so many emotions with this read – always a good sign! It starts and ends with heartbreak, but that really doesn’t give away what happens in between. I also don’t think there needs to be another book. The ending was tragic and beautiful. It left you with just enough answers and a little bit of hope. It wasn’t pretty, but it was all amazing. Highly recommended.
